F-16 training flights at Des Moines’ 132nd Fighter Wing

Lt. Col. Travis Acheson and his father, Keith Acheson, have nearly 50 years of flying jets at the Iowa Air National Guard’s 132nd Fighter Wing in Des Moines. F-16 flights will be phased out by this Fall, as the base transitions to a new mission.

Best Western Carson Station Hotel Casino in Carson City, Nevada held the Ultimate Wing Wars, a chicken wing cook-off event on Friday, October 5 through Sunday, October 7, 2012 in the Carson Station parking lot at 900 S. Carson Street in Carson City, NV.

“Last year’s inaugural chicken wing cook-off event was a tremendous success with thousands in attendance,” said Jennifer Russell, Carson Station’s director of marketing. “This is year we upped the ante with more wings, more prizes, more music and more fun.”

Organized by W.R. “Willie” Davison the self-proclaimed “Chicken Wing King”, the region’s best bars, restaurants and catering groups served up a their superbly sauced wings to the public and prepared for battle.

Attendees, armed with napkins and a hearty appetite, helped choose the winner of this war, based on the tastiest sauce and most tender wings.

Carson Station’s Ultimate Wing Wars also featured dozens of vendors for shopping, kids games and casino giveaways and special promotions inside the newly remodeled Carson Station Hotel Casino for cash giveaways and special promotions.
