I love wildlife photography & don’t do nearly enough of it mainly due to not having the best lens choices . The Nikon 70-200mm with a 1.4 tele convertor is the biggest lens I own & it presented a challenging morning .
I’d dearly ( excuse the pun) have loved to get the great close ups of Stags battling it out for supremacy amongst the Does but the lack of reach meant adjusting my mind set to capture images showing these magnificent creatures in their natural surrounds .
The light was poor so I used aperture priority between f2.8 (without the TC) + f5.6 , ISO at 640 for most of the images & used my tripod as a monopod .
I’m fairly pleased with my results & am looking forward to a return trip in a couple of weeks when the Rut should be well underway .
Hopefully this video will show that even without the perfect lens & in less than ideal conditions you can still capture some decent images 😊

As I got older and could afford a camera I started dreaming of traveling to Yellowstone and Photographing Wildlife there. I can say I have been there a few times and was able to get some very nice pictures. Out of all the pictures I took the best ones for me was the Black Wolf you see in this video. When I lived in Oxford North Carolina I loved Photographing the Deer that would come in the garden. Best wishes and hope you enjoy.

This short documentary is about Wildlife photography and the great experiences nature gives. The video takes you behind the scenes and shows how a nature photographer works.
••• ABOUT THIS EPISODE •••
Wildlife photography – Foxes & Deer | Behind the scenes is all about how to get close to the animals and how nature can always surprise you when you are being quiet and humble.
It’s early morning and I am in the field with my camera to discover the wildlife. I am especially looking for the deer. This day the I got the best experience ever on this location…
Light is perfect for wildlife photography and everything seems to be a perfect photo trip. Nature did not know anything about my plan for the day, so a surprise was waiting for me out there!
It is my intention to make behind the scenes videos from my upcoming photo adventures, and in the winter I am planning on making a video from my photo expedition to Svalbard.
So please subscribe to my channel if you want to get notified when I upload a new video about nature and wildlife photography.
••• WHO I AM •••
My name is Morten Hilmer and I work as a professional nature and wildlife photographer. In a serie of short 4K videos I will share my fascination of nature with you and invite you behind the scene when I am out photographing the fascinating wildlife, the stunning landscapes and the wild nature. I work as a ILCP photographer, and nature conservation is very close to my heart.
“I have served in the Danish military special unit, the Sirius Patrol, for two years and that has given me the skills and confidence to operate alone in the arctic regions. I have spent two further years in the northern parts of Greenland meeting the local people and working on photography projects. My driving force is a sense of adventure and my fascination for nature, and my curiosity and empathy for other cultures has led me to many remote regions.”
Read more about my time in the Sirius Dogsled Patrol:
Beside the many publications my photographs has been awarded in the Wildlife photographer of the year and European Wildlife photographer of the year photo competitions.
In spring 2017 I published my book Silence of the North:

As a child, Susan McConnell would spend hours watching wood rats carrying out their complex social lives in a woodpile. In this interview, she explains how her early interest in animal behavior formed the underpinnings of two passions in her life: understanding how neural circuits are assembled during development (which ultimately regulates animal behavior, and forms the main pursuit of her lab), and her love for wildlife photography, which she pursues around the globe.
