We drove just a few miles south of the historic city of Charleston the Charleston Tea Plantation is located on historic Wadmalaw Island in the heart of the Lowcountry of South Carolina. The history of the Island dates back to mid-June of 1666 when it is believed that Captain Robert Sanford and the crew of the Berkeley Bay landed on the shores of what is now known as Rockville, South Carolina. On June 23, 1666, he and his crew claimed the land for England and the Lords Proprietors. Today, Wadmalaw is considered to be one of Charleston’s most unspoiled islands. It is approximately 10 miles long and 6 miles wide. The Island’s only connection to the mainland is a bridge that crosses over Church Creek.

Building a Homestead
We do hope you choose to follow us during this journey and join us on our NEW adventures.
As of January 2015, we had started walking down a path of changes to meet a five-year goal of traveling the United States viewing and enjoying the beauty of the canvas that our Heavenly Father has painted for us to live in.
In May 2015 we bought a 28 foot Class C motor home that we called Maycee. On September 16th, we had an accident and Maycee was totaled, so we are now embarking on finding a replacement in addition to working on a homestead that we will use as our home base.
We invite you to come and enjoy the journey with us!

A trip to London might as well be a trip through history. This city has long been a hub for finance, education, and culture, and is full of modern construction mixed with ancient buildings.
Your London tour must include St. Paul’s Cathedral, one of its most well-known churches. You’ll also want to see the Tower of London, the Palace of Westminster, and Westminster Abbey for exquisite examples of the city’s famous architectural landmarks. Walk or jog through numerous green spaces, among them Hyde Park and Green Park, in the center of London.
Continue your London sightseeing in the West End, where you’ll find ancient buildings converted into modern shops, restaurants, bars, and shows. You’ll find one of the largest theatre districts in the world here, and can take in a different play almost every night of the week.
For a real treat, climb aboard the London Eye, a giant, rotating Ferris wheel, and see the old and new parts of the city all at once.

It’s only 93 miles from Florida, and just 13 from the Bahamas, but like the smoke that coils from its legendary cigars, The Republic of Cuba exists in a time and space all its own.
Few cities can stir the imagination like Cuba’s capital, Havana, a city preserved by forts, a five-mile seawall, and an imposed embargo, which held back the excesses of the 20th century for over 50 years.
Havana’s lure can be hard to resist, but Cuba offers so much more beyond the seductive lights of its capital. In Cuba, a long sandy beach is never far away.
Just 12 miles from Havana’s downtown, the Eastern Beaches unroll toward the town of Matanzas, the birthplace of the rumba, and Cárdenas, where the Cuban Flag flew for the very first time. From here, follow the scent of fresh lime, rum and suntan lotion north to Varadero.
After exploring the northern coastline, turn south towards Cuba’s most revolutionary city, Santa Clara, and Trinidad, once the sugar capital of the world. Don’t miss elegant Cienfuegos, the only Cuban city founded by the French.
Sometimes it’s hard to know whether Cuba is awakening to the world, or if the world is awakening to Cuba. Whatever your politics, it’s easy to admire this island nation that has proudly gone its own way.
Cuba may still have one foot firmly in the past, but as the world tumbles towards tomorrow, we can be thankful for the many things it has not let go.

We are pleased to celebrate the successful launching of the CMSC’s Campaign to Restore DACA’s Advance Parole in Washington, D.C. last week, with a team of 20 DACA recipients from across the country ! ! !
Through several advocacy activities, we brought about an unprecedented awareness on the importance for the restoration of Advance Parole for DACA recipients, solidified a network of Dreamers and support organizations, and returned energized with an action plan for the rest of the year.
On Tuesday January 15, 2019, the CMSC and Rep. Alan Lowenthal hosted a widely covered and attended informational seminar on Advance Parole at the U.S. Capitol, when we were able to share several heartbreaking human stories and how the denial of Advance Parole has been devastating to Dreamers.
In addition to the seminar, our delegation secured numerous appointments with congressional immigration staff advisors to solicit support and acquire more signatures on the letter initiated by Reps. Alan Lowenthal and Nanette Barragán, which was sent to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on December 11, 2018, requesting her agreement to restore Advance Parole authorization for Dreamers.
As a result of the groups leadership we were able to secure 25-30 more signatures, and also to initiate a letter from the Senate to be introduced by California senators Kamala Harris and Dianne Feinstein.
We also secured local community support through the screenings of the CMSC’s Advance Parole documentary by Lidieth Arevalo at Luther Place Memorial Church, and Rocio by Dario Guerrero at the Mexican Cultural Institute, which provided each audience an insight of how grim it can be for Dreamers and DACA recipients’ families who are not allowed to leave the country for humanitarian reasons due the suspension of Advance Parole.
Our next step is to call for a congressional hearing on the denial of DACA’s Advance Parole and to return to Washington, D.C. this Spring, to once again mobilize and continue to share our human stories on how the USCIS’ suspension of Advance Parole impacts upon our lives on a daily basis.
We will continue to seek endorsements from organizations that support DACA and undocumented immigrants, raise funds to make a stronger impact and come together with national leaders to fight for the restoration of Advance Parole.
The California-Mexico Studies Center would like to thank all the individual donors and major sponsors who made the launching of the Campaign to Restore DACA’s Advance Parole possible.

We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won’t find in a typical Zagreb tourism brochure, Zagreb itinerary or Zagreb, Croatia city tour also known as Zagreb, Hrvatska.
10 Things to do in Zagreb, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Our travels in Croatia brought us to Zagreb known for its lively street markets, vast green spaces, and varied architecture that spans numerous movements, we reached the capital and hit the ground running. In this video we’re going to show you some fun things to do in Zagreb, as well as share our favourite place for sampling the most delicious truffle dishes:
From the main square you have the Flower Market, and if you head up the steps, that leads to Zagreb’s Central Market.
Zagreb Cathedral is one the city’s main landmarks. This is the largest sacral building in the Gothic style southeast of the Alps, and it’s pretty easy to spot the spires wherever you are in the city.
Our walk through the Upper Town eventually lead us to Tkalčićeva. These days you’ll find a lively street lined with restaurants, cafes and bars.
We reached what may be the most memorable museum in the whole world: The Museum of Broken Relationships. The museum is a global crowd-sourced project that deals with heartbreak. Inside you’ll find curious objects with a corresponding story.
St. Mark’s Church bears the medieval coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia on the left-hand side, and the emblem of Zagreb on the right.
To enjoy city views of the Lower Town there are some great vantage points along the promenade.
On our way down from the Upper Town, we walked through Zagreb’s famed Stone Gate. Once the eastern gate into the medieval settlement now houses a small chapel.
Let’s take a break from all the sightseeing to introduce you to one of our favourite restaurants in Zagreb when it comes to truffle dishes
And craving more views of the city, we then went up Zagreb 360.
Known as the Green Horseshoe, this park was named after Milan Lenuci who came up with the idea of creating connected green spaces right in the downtown. The horseshoe is home to several museums, galleries and archives.
If you’re into hockey and you visit Zagreb during the season, you can catch a game in the city. We watched Medveščak Zagreb play.
And that’s it for our visit to Zagreb! We hope you enjoyed this travel guide and that you got a few ideas of things to see, eat and do on your own visit.
