A raw video trip to half a dozen homeless camps in Oregon and beyond. Well done look at the true grit and broken vessels called the homeless. The Eugene Oregon Opportunity Village is also featured.
Things like Twenty-five days after the city of Portland’s sweep of the Springwater Corridor got underway, a newly created homeless camp in Southeast Portland is hoping it won’t see the same fate.
a group of 12 homeless campers left the Springwater Corridor two weeks before the sweep began. They set up a new, regulated camp, named Camp Amanda. Homeless shelter fails sometimes.

“Sanctuary!” – Charles Laughton ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’

Views:278900|Rating:4.75|View Time:4:53Minutes|Likes:996|Dislikes:53
Here is a scene from one of the greatest films of the 1930s. The gypsy girl Esmeralda (Maureen O’Hara) has been sentenced to hang for witchcraft in front of Notre Dame cathedral by the Chief Justice (Sir Cedric Hardwicke). She is saved from certain death by the cathedral bell-ringer Quasimodo (Charles Laughton) to the delight of Gringoire, who loves her (played by a young Edmond O’Brien) and given sanctuary.

Halliwell’s Film Guide writes: “This superb 1939 remake is one of the best examples of Hollywood expertise at work; art direction, set construction, costumes, camera, lighting and above all direction brilliantly support an irresistible story and bravura acting.”

The set of Notre Dame Cathedral was still standing from the 1923 Lon Chaney silent version, so was re-used in this picture. The director (William Dieterle) was noted for his handling of huge crowds, as here, who had to endure a Californian heatwave during the outdoor scenes. The musical score was one of Alfred Newman’s finest and was nominated for an Oscar. However, there were in fact no Oscar wins for this film in 1939 but it was up against enormous competition, with ‘Gone with the Wind’ sweeping the board that year. Nevertheless it remains a classic movie and contains one of Laughton’s very finest screen roles. (Scene uploaded from the Warner Bros. DVD with all due acknowledgements.)

“Battle Hymn of the Republic”
arr. Roy Ringwald
-Shawnee Press

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord:
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword:
His truth is marching on.

Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat:
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.

The Sanctuary Choir of
Bellevue Baptist Church
Memphis, TN

Soloist: Mr. Leonard Garland
Instrumentalists: Dr. Dale Palmer, Mr. Greg Mills, Mr. Bill Baucum

Dr. Thomas P. Lane, Minister of Music
Dr. Adrian Rogers, Pastor
Mrs. Jerry W. Grise, Organist
Mrs. Walter Lafferty, Pianist

From the album notes:
“Music has been an integral part of worship at Bellevue Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee, for the past seventy-four years. During this time, many outstanding and dedicated musicians have led in her music ministry. For the past twenty-nine years Dr. Thomas P. “Tommy” Lane has served as her Minister of Music. The Sanctuary Choir, under his direction, has grown from 50 to more than 300 singers. This record includes a composite of the type of music that has been sung and is sung from Sunday to Sunday, by the choir. From the classical sacred to the simpliest sacred music, the Love of God is proclaimed through music.

The Choir is ably accompanied by Mrs. Jerry Grise, organist, and Mrs. Walter Lafferty, pianist. The organ, a 71 rank Mueller Pipe Organ, was designed by Mrs. Grise who has been church organist since she was a senior in high school. The piano is a 9 foot Lester concert grand. Mrs. Lafferty has been the church pianist for the past ten years. The record was recorded in the Bellevue Sanctuary.

Bellevue Baptist Church, under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Adrian Rogers, is the second largest Baptist Church in the Southern Baptist Convention. For more than 25 years the morning worship service has been telecast, and both the morning and evening worship services have been broadcast.”

Joe Pace Presents: Praise for the Sanctuary Released: Oct 19, 2010

Colorado Mass Choir, under the direction of acclaimed songwriter/producer Joe Pace, has evolved into one of gospel music’s most popular choirs. The choir, formed in 1995 out of a community-wide choral workshop that took place in Colorado Springs, CO, is comprised of over 60 members from 35 different churches throughout the state. The choir became an instant success through their 1995 debut album for Verity Records, Watch God Move. The album yielded such popular songs as the title track “Watch God Move,” “Still Have Joy,” and the smash hit “Stir Up the Gift.” The choir was richly rewarded for the success of this album, receiving a Stellar Award for New Artist of the Year in 1997, as well as four GMWA Gospel Music Excellence Award Nominations in 1997 in the categories of Album of the Year, New Artist of the Year (Contemporary), New Artist of the Year (Traditional), and Song of the Year for “Stir Up the Gift.”

The accolades continued to roll in with the choir’s sophomore project, the 1998 release entitled So Good. The project featured a number of special guests, including Kim Rutherford, who appears on the track “At the Cross”; the husband/wife duo Angelo & Veronica, who are featured on “Yes He Loves Me” with Veronica going solo on the track “Bless His Holy Name”; and Min. Kenneth Wells, who was the vocal catalyst behind the hit “Stir Up the Gift,” taking the reigns on the track “He Takes Care of His Own.” The album ended up receiving four Stellar Award nominations in 1999 for Choir of the Year, Traditional Choir of the Year, Traditional Album of the Year, and Producer of the Year, (Joe Pace), along with two Dove Award nominations for Traditional Album of the Year and Traditional Song of the Year for the titled track, “So Good.”

Joe Pace and the Colorado Mass Choir would eventually release two more albums on the Verity label, the 1999 release God’s Got It, which featured a guest vocal appearance by award-winning artist/songwriter/producer Fred Hammond, and the 2001 compilation Joe Pace and the Colorado Mass Choir — The Greatest Hits. Also in 2001, the choir inked a recording deal with Mobile, AL-based praise & worship label Integrity Music and released their debut project for the label, entitled Glad About It. ~ Tim A. “Reuben Boswell was born in 1755 and was a native of Spotsylvania County, Virginia. After serving in the Revolutionary War, he moved to Mecklenburg County. In the summer of 1824, Reuben donated four acres of land for what would become the Sandy Ridge Methodist Episcopal Church. Local farmers, 22 in all, donated $262.00 for the construction of the new house of worship. The establishment of this church would eventually lead to the town we know today. In time, Reuben Boswell’s daughter married a man named Weddington and in 1826, a grandson, Reuben B. Weddington arrived. For the next sixty years, Reuben B. Weddington grew, lived, and prospered in the area.”
