Mormon Stories #658: Dr. Greg Prince Pt. 1 – Early Years, Developing a Cure for RSV

Views:6044|Rating:4.62|View Time:1:8:32Minutes|Likes:24|Dislikes:2
Dr. Greg Prince is best known within Mormonism as the author of three books:

– Power from on High: The Development of Mormon Priesthood
– David O. McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism
– Leonard Arrington and the Writing of Mormon History

In this three-part series we discuss the following:

– Part 1: Greg’s early years as a Mormon in the Los Angeles area, his graduate work as a dentist and as a pathologist, and his role in developing a cure for RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection), which has saved tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of infant lives.

– Part 2: Greg discusses the challenges of raising a son (Madison) with autism, then discusses how he developed a gospel framework that allowed him to avoid a faith crisis, which led to his entree into Mormon history authorship. We focus on his Priesthood book.

– Part 3: Greg goes deep into how he maintains faith/belief and activity in God/Christ/the LDS Church as a scientist, and after knowing so much troubling LDS history. He also lays out in detail his nuanced LDS testimony.

A smiling Prince Harry sang Happy Birthday to a young royal fan as she stood waiting to meet him on her ninth birthday.  Megan O’Carroll was stood with classmate Harry Edwards from St Werburgh’s Catholic Primary School in Birkenhead as the royal couple approached.  The school had sent their very own Harry and Megan to meet the royal couple, who were in town visiting a number of charities, having earlier unveiled a statue to war poet Wilfred Owen.  Amazingly as the group around the two schoolchildren started to sing, Harry joined in too.  The footage was recorded by Hello’s Royal Editor Emily Nash, who tweeted the clip filmed in Birkenhead.  Meghan came back over to see her little namesake, saying “I missed a happy birthday that was happening here.  “Is it your birthday? Happy birthday Megan.”  The Duchess of Sussex had already told crowds she was six months pregnant and even asked them what she should call the baby if it was a girl.  One replied that she she should call it “Amy” to which Meghan said was a “great name”.  For updates follow Mirror Online’s live blog  Dressed in a red coat and matching heels, with a purple dress, she was pictured cradling her large bump throughout today’s visit.  The couple were seen working the crowd, with hugs for schoolchildren from Harry as the receive gifts including a giant teddy and flowers.  They started the day with a visit to Hamilton Square, where they viewed a new sculpture to mark the 100th anniversary of war poet Wilfred Owen’s death.  The statue, by artist Jim Whelan, is entitled ‘Futility’ after one of Owen’s poems.  Video footage showed fans screaming ‘Meghan’ as the royal couple unveil a plaque to go with the sculpture.  Together, the couple lifted a purple sheet off the plaque as people cheered.  They then did a walkabout before being seen at the town hall.  The Duke and Duchess also officially opened ‘Number 7’, a ‘Feeding Birkenhead’ citizens supermarket and community cafe.  Feeding Birkenhead is a coalition of churches, food banks, community groups, and other organisations working together to eliminate hunger in Birkenhead.  The supermarket enables local families to buy their weekly shopping at a discounted price, and provides advice and advocacy on benefits, looking for work, debt, budgeting, and cooking.  Meghan and Harry will visit Tomorrow’s Women Wirral, an organisation that supports women in vulnerable circumstances and helps them make positive lifestyle choices and changes.  Finally they will visit the Hive Wirral Youth Zone.

This is the raw file, without audio editing. Please forgive background noises as the HD recording of the video has taken extensive time to edit and compress into an upload friendly file size.

As soon as possible an updated version of this will be uploaded that uses the audio recorded from the microphones used by the speakers and performers, but please understand this will take time. This video alone has required a days of work, plus 6+ hours of upload time. My computer is old and I am not of great health; together we can only do so much.
If someone with a newer computer and fancier program would like to take over the audio editing please let me know and we can figure out getting you the original (not compressed) video file to work with (it’s over 9gb so email and dvds won’t work) and a copy of the audio from the church.
