Land Between The Lakes a state park that is in Kentucky and Tennessee. We arrived before sunrise on August 21st for our chance to see the Great American Solar Eclipse in Totality. We found some abandoned buildings while we were there, likely left over from when Eminent Domain was claimed in the 60’s and the area was flooded to create the lakes.
The world’s largest crude oil transporter has a secret buried deep in the Great Lakes—two aging oil pipelines that transport 23 million gallons of crude oil through the largest body of fresh water on earth.
Enbridge, the company that operates the pipelines, insists that the two 20-inch pipelines stretching across the Straits of Mackinac could last indefinitely. But one look at the company’s environmental record tells another story: Enbridge had more than 800 spills in North America between 1999 and 2010, dumping nearly 6.8 million gallons of oil. The largest spill released one million gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River, only a few hours drive away from the Mackinac Straits. Activists and advocates have independently verified that parts of the pipeline—built in 1953—are sitting unsupported on the bottom of the lake and in major need of repair.
Motherboard travels to Michigan—oil spill central—to investigate the threats of crude oil being transported through one of the largest freshwater ecosystems in the world by a company with one of the most egregious environmental records.

Blood-red water near Canada Place likely from algae blooms
The bands of blood-red water that appeared to be flowing from the bow of a cruise ship moored on the eastern side of Canada Place Wednesday were likely from algae blooms, say authorities at Port Metro Vancouver.

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.”
2The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.
3The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died.
4The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say:
“You are just in these judgments, O Holy One,
you who are and who were;
6for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets,
and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.”
My name is Lola (Lost On Land Again). I am a van dweller in training and this is my story.
On my way home from Virginia I ended up on the state line of Tennessee and Kentucky at the Land Between The Lakes Recreation Area. I camped at the Piney campground. There is lots of free camping in the area, but I opted for hook ups. I’m on vacation, after all. 🙂 Those tall trees almost did my drone in, but I manage to escape somehow. I give Piney campground a big thumbs up!
Life is all about the journey, not the destination. I hope you enjoy my videos! Stay Lost my friends!

Two chicas ride on the Zipper amusement ride at the Festival of the Lakes in Hammond, Indiana (Wolf Lake)
Video taken July 2014
Some of my earliest memories involve going to the carnival for what used to be called August Fest. Now, for the first time, after several years since Festival of Lakes reintroduced NW Indiana to the great entertainment Hammond has to offer, the carnival and surrounding events/activities has hit a high. The amusement rides in the midway were excellent, the food vendors were moved to a location reminiscent of how things were back in the day, and the overall Wolf Lake park layout (for things like concert area, beer garden, etc) was great.
I didn’t get a meat cone (it’s tastier looking than it sounds), but the yard stick full of chocolate-covered strawberries was fabulous. For the first time in a long time, I’m looking forward to next year’s Fest!
Take your family and friends to Hammond’s Festival of Lakes in 2015.

150050.MP4 – at 15:03 on Sunday, August 21, 2016 in rural Sunburg. Video by the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper in Brooten, MN. Coverage from this video appeared in the August 25, 2016 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper.
Mammoth Lakes local and former Eastside Velo President John Armstrong noted that “When you’re out there training, trying to get fit, and (maybe) suffering a bit, it helps to look up [at the mountains] and just realize where you are.” John also cites the area’s great roads as a draw. The Eastern Sierra near Mammoth Lakes has great roads for all levels of cyclists, from beginner to pro. You’ll find flat roads, steep roads and gorgeous, winding mountain roads. High Altitude Training is also a benefit of cycling near Mammoth Lakes. Athletes of all kinds get a great aerobic advantage from training at altitude.
Favorite spots to ride from beginner to expert:
1) Benton Crossing Road (easy). Park the car at the Green Church or Whitmore Ball Park near the airport and just get on your bike and ride. This is a nice, easy ride that starts with approximately 20 miles of flat roads through the high desert steppe before you get into some hills. It’s a quite road in terms of traffic and Mono County has maintained it extremely well. This ride offers beautiful panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the White Mountains.
2) Mammoth Lakes Basin (moderate): Start in the town of Mammoth Lakes and go up the Lake Mary Bike Path. It’s a bit of a climb getting up into the Lakes Basin, so just take it easy. Spin and take your time. Once you’re up in the lakes basin, you can tour 6 alpine lakes surrounded by mountains along a couple of loops in the area. Then, when you’re ready to go back into town you have a nice long, pleasant downhill ride back.
3) Minaret Vista to Reds Meadow (difficult): This 2.5 to 3 hour ride features 4,000 vertical feet of steep climbing. If you’re looking for a real workout, this is the ride for you.
Don’t miss the High Sierra Fall Century and Gran Fondo. This 100 mile bike ride will challenge you as you winds through some of the most epic scenery in the Eastern Sierra. You’ll find food and hydration stations every 20 miles and a supportive community with lots of people to meet.
